I've never dual-booted before, but I would like to begin learning NT 4 along with having Windows 98 on my harddrive. What would be the easiest way to dual boot? Do I just create two partitions on my harddrive, install Windows 98 to the first partition and NT 4 to the second one? How does the boot menu get created?

Thanks,
Mark

Keep each os on their own partition. I have had both on the same partition and all worked out fine. If you choose to dual boot. Install 98 first then NT second. When installing NT it will see the Win98 OS and will install a simple text based menu that will allow you to choose which OS to boot into on startup.

If you would like NT to be able to read the partition that 98 exists on you must make both partitions FAT16 partitions because NT by itself can not read a FAT32 partition. Fairly simple straightfoward process. Good luck.

Actually I have another question. According to the website linked above, Windows NT has to be installed on the first partition (drive c: ) in order to work properly. Is this correct? There is no way for me to install Windows NT on drive d: and Windows 98 on drive c: (with drive c: formatted as FAT 32)?

just make sure that you have a fat16 partition or NTFS partition formated. or you can tell NT to make a partition in fat16 or NTFS during the NT install.
NT will not boot from a fat32 parition. the first partition has to be fat16 or NTFS. in other words you can put NT where ever you want, as long as it is on a partition that is formated fat16 or NTFS.
