simple winrar question

How do they create the .rar, .r01, .r02, etc. files out of 1 huge file using winrar ? You'd think that option would stand out, but apparently it doesn't. I need some hand-holding... thx.

right click -> "add to archive..." then put something in "split to volumes"

It does stand out. When you add to archive you will see in the lower left a place to specify file size. Pick one or enter your own.

how do i get the r01, r02 extensions? I just get part1.rar, part2.rar, part3.rar...

r01 and r02 yadday are the old extensions. newer winrar dumps it for the better part1.rar and so on
