simple Windows question...

All my icons have to have an extension on them in order to open.
For example if I saved an MS word document as "hello" it must have the acronyms, ".doc" on it in order to open, this is rather annoying since I often rename icons(after I save it as new default)

What happened? Not sure if some program I installed did this by default or what, but I don't remember changing anything. What settings do I have to change to reverse this?

In Explorer, go to Tools / Folder Options. Under the View tab, check "Hide extensions for known file types."

Thanks a lot my friend! Certainly did the trick...maybe this happened after I installed the beta version of IE, I don't know... reguardless, this makes things much better, cheers! and thanks again!

Yeah, but that will hide them for all folders. I think you may just want to do this for the Desktop folder (it's in your document folder tree).

If you work with Windows Explorer, not having the file extensions will drive you nuts.
