Simple Winddows 2000 question.

I've been looking everywhere but can't find the option for search for floppy on boot in Windows 2000. It drives me nuts.

I've been running W2K for a few months now and have not seen it either (not looking hard enough? ). But it's not really an issue, just make your choice in the boot order in the bios.

The boot device order decision has to be made in the BIOS. Setting it in the OS is impossible, since the OS hasn't yet been loaded when the bootstrap starts!

Jim

I'm not talking about the boot from floppy option.

When Windows first starts up it does a quick floppy scan.. I know how to disable it in win98 but I can't find it in Windows 2000..

Aha! Sorry for misunderstanding you!

Don't recall seeing this as a setting in either OS, although it is an option in a lot of anti-virus software.

On the other hand, I've only been using Windows for a year-and-a-half. I must have missed this one.

Regards,
Jim

I know what you are talking about. You disable it in win98 cuz it saves time on startup, but haha yeah, i couldn't find it in win2k either.

In win98, it's My Computer->system properties->performance->file system->floppy drive.
