my computer is listed as an "Advanced Configuration and Power Interface (ACPI) PC"
My motherboard *does* support ACPI.

Is this a good thing or a bad thing? All I want is a nice stable desktop PC for working and occasionally gaming on (q2, q3a, ut).

thanks...

If your motherboard supports ACPI, then yes, what it says is correct. It is basically saying that win2k recognizes that your setup is ACPI compliant, and has configured it as such.
