Simple web site/web server software

Okay... I am a big dummy when it comes to web site stuff but have for the last 3 years paid a web host for space to upload photos to (family, vacations, etc.) that is simple to use, people who google my name stumble upon it, no passwords or permissions are required, etc. Is there a way to run this at home off one of my old computers running windows home server, linux, ubuntu, or ????

The key is keep things the way they are for old friends, family, etc to be able to access it via google searches or by just typing in the web site name..
 
Windows Home Server will hosts photos and videos, provides a simple way to handle dynamic DNS, and it limits access by user.

Be aware though, that, with home Internet accounts, some ISPs block the ports commonly used for web or FTP hosting.
