Simple video card question....help please.

Hi all,

I've been out of the loop for about a year now concerning the video card wars. I'm looking to upgrade and I've come up with two choices: the Radeon 9100 or the Geforce FX 5200 (not the ultra...too expensive). Due to outside influences (my wife!!) those are the 2 I can afford at this time. I'm currently running a Geforce 4 mx 420 with a P4 2.53, 512 ram....etc...

So which one should I go with? I'm not a hardcore gamer, but I do like to play a variety of games....Nascar 2003, GPL, BAttlefield 1942, and I'm sure Halfllife 2 when it's released!!

Any help with this is appreciated!

Thanks,

Chappie

I would vote on a ti4200 64mb or 128mb would be fine and near your price range, and perform a bit better than the 2 you listed...

I'd have to say get the FX 5200... while it can't get frame rates as high as the Ti4200, it's MUCH better when you turn AA and AF on. And the difference in performance with AA and AF off you most likely wouldn't notice... 150 frames per second instead of 170... nobody would notice that little difference at such a high rate anyway. The FX5200 is also compatible with DX9, so as DX9 games become more available, you'll be able to run them... maybe not very well, but at least you'll be able to run them with hardware support.
