Simple upgrade, possibly to run 3 cards?

So my plan/hopes are to get a motherboard capable of running in SLI as my current one wont allow me (asus m4a87td). I would like a basic upgrade in motherboard that will simply allow SLI, (no I don't want to buy a single gpu thats "better") and would like suggestions. Also, currently have nvidia gtx 460 and would really like to run SLI as you already know...what cards are similar to or just a step above my current setup? Or, if I just bought another 460 would there be a noticeable performance increase?

I am currently running with two monitors and would like support for at least 3 at once or possibly 4. So, in essence I need another gpu but if I am going to go through that I would rather purchase and run two gpus in SLI. What cards would be similar performance wise when compared to a gtx 460? And what motherboard would afford me to simply run SLI without getting too fancy?
