simple supreme commander question

OK just got the game, and was messing around with it in practice mode...

I get the part where you buld Land Factories, Air Factories...ect...

Then you have to upgrade the factories to the different levels I, II, II and then you can create "experiemental units"

However when you have the ACU (your supreme commander), how in the hell do you upgrade him? I go to the upgrades on him (gear clog)...click on LEFT arm and there is a tech level 2 upgrade...but it doesn't allow me do do anything...

Says something along the lines of "Must have Tech 3 engineer, upgraded ACU, or sACU in order to blah blah blah..."

I am assuming I am a total tard cause I can't figure it out and didn't see anything in the video turitoral or manual...

I guess I was just hoping to figure out how to eventually build those Monsterous units...but for the life of me can't figure it out...

Well, when you build a tech 2 or 3 factory, you can build tech 2 or 3 engineers out of it, so Ibelieve you need a tech2 engineer for tech2 upgrades, and tech3 for the tech 3 engineers. However you don't even need to upgrade your commander to get experimental units, just a tech 3 engineer. When you get one, to the left of their build tab below tech 3 is the experimental units tab. Clcik on that then itll bring up the menu for those and you're good to go.

You have to upgrade your ACU's parts. There are upgrades to allow him tech level 2 and 3 access, he builds it himself (like shielding, and other upgrades). You click on him, then click the upgrades section, the select the upgrade. They take a long time so have a few guys help him out. He can up tech levels without uping factorys, but its slow as dirt that way, better to use engineers

Build a tech3 engineer > Build one of those gate thingies > teleport in an SACU > build experimental units with SACU, it takes about a third of the time over using tech3 engineers.

To the post that says to upgrade the ACU...I did that and it still didn't appear that I could build anything that would resemble what was termed "experimental"

on the land factories once it got to be tech 3 I could see the experimental tab and there were three units available...is that all that is available for experimental units? I haven't played around with it enough to find out totally I guess

Put another way when I have my ACU selected...I have purchased all the ugrades I can get I think...

and when I click on the different tech levels with him selected it says the following

you must upgrade your construction units to access this tech level

So I think that means the ACU can only build tech level one stuff...is that how it works or can you some how upgrade the ACU to build tech level II & III stuff right out of the gate...that is what I don't understand and can't find anything on it...

nothing like a legion of spiderbots with a wing of bombers to pummel an enemy into the dirt :D

as for the tech upgrades to the commander, i typically dont do them because i dont like my commander to see any combat, i give him the personal cloaking upgrades and hes hides behind a wall of shields and stealth fields surrounded by AA and anti nuclear lol.

I didnt know about the sACUs building fast though.

Each faction has 3 experimental units.

I prefer the Spider/Gunship/Rapid Artillery units myself (from the Cybran).
The spider is actually buildable on a small map if you have almost half of the metal points and surround each them with metal storage.
Or if you make a bunch of T3 metal makers and some T3 power plants, you can build the spider with a commander and a bunch of T3 engineers in very little time.
The rapid artillery is cool but you could build a bunch of other stuff before that and win the round easily. The gunship is nice but not terribly powerful compared to its cost. One good cluster of T3 anti-air guns and units will wipe it out quickly.

The UEF ones arent that great in my opinion. The mobile factory is powerful but takes too long to build and you could have a great army instead. The mobile artillery is nice but again, too expensive. The submersible carrier is UNGODLY expensive and I've never had an ocean game last long enough to take advantage of it. You can squeeze out a bunch of battleships in its place much quicker.

The Aeon ones are OK. The flying fortress is great for taking out powerful units and buildings but its slow and can be torn down with a good cluster of anti-air units. The submersible battleship is (again) too expensive and I can never get a water game to last so I havent been able to use it. The sacred assault bot is AWESOME!
Very expensive but worth it. Insane hit points and really good attack. It can survive a detonating Commander at close range. I like to build at least one for each base assault. Well worth the resources if you can swing it.

But overall my favorite is still the spider bot. Reasonable cost and excellent hit points & weapons. Not to mention radar stealth to help it avoid artillery during its movment.

REMEMBER: It only takes one T3 engineer to start an experimental unit. After that you can add on any type of builder to help out. With enough resources and engineers you can build the Aeon Assault Bot in a relatively short time.

I can say with out a doubt that you can build tech level 3 buildings with your ACU, you are chosing the wrong ACU upgrades, read what they do, select the right ones if you want to improve what they can build.
