Simple Question: Disabling Date in Windows Taskbar

I set the Taskbar to the left of the screen, and at the bottom part of it it's set so that I see the time, the day, and the date. I'd like to know if there's a way to disable the day or even the date while leaving the time enabled. I don't like to waste (what I think is) unnecessary screen real estate, no matter how little.

If you were to look at the bottom of the taskbar, it'd be something like this:

7:57 PM
Sunday----> The day, what I want to eliminate
10/09/11--->Would be nice to know if the date can be eliminated, too.

Turn off the clock entirely or set the taskbar to use small icons.

Copy of Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit that came with the laptop (ThinkPad X120e, it's my mom's).

In my own laptop the day isn't displayed, but in her's it is.

I don't want to use small icons; they're way to small on a display with 135 PPI.

Nope. Standard install, with SP1, Win7 64-bit home premium. 1920x1200 res monitor, NVidia newest WHQL drivers.

My installs of Win7 have always just shown the time, on the top line, and the date, on the bottom line. Never the day of the week. Have to mouse hover over it to get that.

What you want is under here in the Formats section of the clock

Advanced Clock Settings
To get there go to Control Panel > Region and Language (can't see that section? In Control Panel choose View by > Large Icons)
These options switch settings system wide as well as the clock area. Click on the arrows to see your options.
While other options can change the taskbar clock options, I recommend using the Short date and Long time sections.
For time little h is 12 hour clock, big H is 24 hour clock. Play with the options until you see a format you like.

Click Apply to see your changes.

Are you sure you don't have the taskbar wider than normal? If you drag the task bar wider it will show the date all the time. If you you reduce it back to its default with the date disappears. Something to try.

I tried and this worked. :awe:

Not exactly like that, however. When you change the default taskbar to the left you can make it thinner by having "Lock the taskbar" unchecked and then moving the arrows to the leftmost they'll go, which then makes the day go away.

I still wonder about the date, though. I've never been able to disable that. :hmm:

Thanks . I used these options before to change the date format so it would be mm:dd:yy in the taskbar.
