Question Simple Question about subscription internet speed and streaming

I have a friend who is relying exclusively on OTA broadcast TV. I told him he could considerably increase his channel lineups even for using only free streaming subscriptions like Pluto and Tubi, if he would add streaming to his TV configuration. He has a TV from 2012, and should still be able to stream with a ROKU or FireStick. Inquiring further, it seems that he has a Century Link internet subscription @ 100 Mbps downstream speed.

How much speed should be adequate for streaming television?

Typically OTA being raw hits a max of 25mbps per stream. Paid services are compressed and use a lot less. Plex channels might bounce from 3-10mbps. I haven't clicked Pluto but suspect about the same.

It all depends on what he's using that 100mbps for though too. If it's heavy downloads then It might cause a bit of buffering. Nothing too serious though.

I used a dynalink box for awhile because others were prone to issues and they're only $30-$40 and work really well.

Thanks. I should know those particulars, but I'd been getting TV through coax and didn't bother. I'm suddenly goo-gah about streaming, and eager to tell everyone about it.
