Which setup would be better for a 3d Modeling and animation system ( Win 2000 ) , 256MB DDR PC2100 or 512MB PC100? This is on a Thunderbird 1.2Ghz system.

FYI, DDR doesn't physically fit in SDR slots. Unless you have a mobo that can take both, you'll need a new one.

And don't forget that DDR mobos won't be seen for a few days.

Since there is only a 10% increase or so in performance, I would go with the 512MB of SDRAM. The extra memory can't hurt for 3d animation work, that's for sure.

Maximus... the memory itself has been out for a while now.. you can find some @ crucial.com... they have just been waiting for the motherboards to come out.
For what you're going to be doing and the fact that you're using win2000 I'd say the more RAM the better... so go with the 512mb.

why not 512 mb DDR pc1600 which probably will be as cheap as pc100?

Edit: This is my Golden post :)

I would get 512MB DDR but I havet seen any motherboard that has more than 2 DDR slots and no bigger than a 128MB DDR. That only adds up to 256MB DDR
