I have all of the files in a folder, but i did the ie5setup.exe and it just directs me to download the stuff again.... any other ways to install this??

Did you run the "ie5setup.exe" from the 'Windows Update Setup Files' folder, most likely on your C: drive?

>>>yes I did, i said that I did. and all it wants to do is re d/l the same stuff over again <<<

What you downloaded was not SP1 but a loader file. After that has been downloaded then is when you actually download the real SP1. On dial-up modems it takes about an hour and 20 minutes. With DSL it takes less than two minutes to download the full file and have it self install.

I log onto the MS update site. Then select to download SP1 and then let it auto install. Can't go wrong that way.

-I did d/l the setup prog, then when i got into it, i clicked advanced, then FULL (which d/l's it and saves it into a folder, so i could install it later) and it did that ok, theres 32MBs of files in the folder I saved it into.
-But Now when i go to install it, it just wants to re download it.
-The reason why i wanted to d/l it and install it later was becuase i was going to burn it, then install it on someone else's pc, cus they have a limited time a month for the net.

AuteX,

I have not tried this myself yet but a friend of mine says there is a professional Microsoft web site where you can download the SP1 and save it to disk and then it does work to install it on several computers later.

He says that is for the large companies who have hundreds of computers and cannot download and install the file on each computer. So you get the professional download and it works when installing it on other computers.

I do not have the URL so you would have to search the MS web site for the professional page.

Why not suggest to your friend to install free Juno so they can have virtually unlimited on-line time on the internet. I have free Juno as a backup and it works great. I downloaded SP1 using free Juno on one of my computers. Kind of slow using dial-up but it worked with a successfull download and installation.

The Juno install program is great as it also automatically installs its own DUN so as soon as you finish installing Juno you can log onto the internet or do email. Juno uses Netscape or Internet Explorer for surfing and its own program for doing e-mail. A nice setup. Juno uses IE 5.5 even though I had it setup for PacBell dial-up. A nice feature.

Call Juno at: 1.800.562.7719

Full featured Juno costs $9.95 per month.

Hi,
The Setup program gives u the d/l screen again but it actually does not download - it uses the files you have already saved on your hard disk. So go ahead and run it and click on Next and you will find out :D
