simple question about car buying and engine size.

I have my eyes set on a Hyudai Santa Fe, but I dont know which model to get. It is between the GLS, and the SE model.

I did my research and although the SE has a lot of bells and whistles, these are things that I do not have to have. The only questin I have is the engine.

the SE model has a 3.3 liter engine, and the GLS has a 2.7 liter.

My question is what does a bigger engine mean? what advantage does it provide?

Im thinking if it better to get a new GLS vehicle now, or wait till I get more money and get the SE version

what do you guys think?

no towing, driving driving to and from work everyday.

will it have any effect on the reliability/longivity of the vehicle? If I buy this time, I plan to use it for at least 7 to 10 years(unless I get rich)

Sometimes a certain engine from a manufacturer is more reliable than others they make, but I don't know about this particular instance. My suggestion would be to test drive both models, and look at the MPG ratings.

A bigger engine means (in general) more power but lower gas mileage.

Reliability really depends on the engine, not the size. There are extremely reliable and extremely unreliable examples of just about every size of engine.

If you're just commuting, get the smaller engine for better mileage.

Test drive each one. There are lots of variables for each person.

Maybe you have some high speed merging, or pulling out into high speed traffic? Then you may decide that the power of the bigger engine is worth it.

Maybe the bigger engine comes with stability control? You may want that?

I was in the same boat as you. The difference between the GLS and SE did not seem to be worth the price difference, but the SE felt more responsive when I test drove it. I think the gas mileage is pretty similar. The SE has a bigger engine, but also has another gear in the transmission. After I test drove a GLS manual AWD I decided to get it. The MPG with the stick was better and without the AT, it was much more responsive than even the SE. I just bought it Friday evening and have about 600 miles on it now. I get about 24 mpg with a mix of highway and stop and go driving. I suppose it may get a little better after it is broken in. The manual GLS AWD was hard to find. I drove about 100 miles to get mine at fitzmall.com. It cost me about 19,500 before tax and tags. So far I have no buyer's remorse and I love the warranty.
