I ordered my Albatron PX845PEV Pro II board on Monday and need a CPU to pop in this weekend. Ill be ordering from NewEgg tomorrow and was hoping to get some quick feedback on the CPU's available. System will be solely for gaming and definitely want to O/C. Im not addicted to FSB just yet although Thugsrook has me thinking that these forums and testing might prove more rewarding then BF1942 at times :)

anyhow, ill be upgrading the HSF (im thinking AlphaPal) and will be running CORSAIR MEMORY XMS Extreme Memory Speed Series 512MB 64MX64 PC-3000C2PT With Platinum - Silver Heat Spreader. id like some quick feedback on CPU i should grab. not necessarily the best bang for the buck but more the best "overall" CPU (ocing ability, stability and WOW factor) but not overpaying (ie buying a 2.8). here are the choices:

1. Pentium4 1.8A 400MHZ (retail) $138.00
2. Pentium4 1.9 400MHZ (retail) $155.00
3. Pentium4 2.0A 400MHZ (OEM) $156.00
4. Pentium4 2.2 400MHZ (retail) $194.00
5. Pentium4 2.26 533MHZ (retail) $202.00
6. Pentium4 2.4B 533MHZ (OEM) $190.00
7. Pentium4 2.4 400MHZ (retail) $194.00
8. Pentium4 2.5 400MHZ (retail) $256.00

thanks much, ill certainly post some results over the weekend.Text

You should be able to get this to 150+ FSB, ~ 2.7 GHz+ DDR400+.

p4 1.8a nw is your best choice, cpu prices are dropping fast, buy the least expensive northwood. the diff between 1.8a to 2.4 is minimal, invest that extra money in a good video card or case instead.

thanks guys - updated my profile/info and added the 1.8a to my newegg shopping cart. i was actually hearing great things about that 2.5 400MHZ but that $100 savings will cover my alpha pal and some nice quiet fans and change to boot.

any other opinions?

overclock a 2.5 to 3.0..........no guarantee of course but 25 x 120 is realistic

Buy 2 1.8a's from seperate sources (NewEgg, Googlegear, etc.) and test 'em, keeping the pick of the litter. Sell the other one and you're in schweetness for under $150;).
