so im getting a new computer sometime this week. i already have one computer with a cable connection. what i want is to have both computers on the same connection, its very fast so i dunno if that makes a diff, but i want to also be able to play lan games of say cs between both computers, and i think i want them to both have seperate ips. if all this is possible please lay down your expertise and i shall be very grateful.

thanks in advance

ps please list all the parts i need including cables and stuff.

Ignore the prices in the links above. The same or similar hardware can be found for 60%-90% less.

Log to this page it has a lot of links to instructions to Windows Network Setting and Sharing.

You need a simple 4 port router. You can basically look at a router as a smart switch.

The Cable/DSL Router is a combo unit.

It provides Routing to share the Internet, and a Switch to connect four computers.

If you use a Cable/DSL Router you need.

1. One NIC in each computer.

2. Cat5e cable for each computer to connect the NIC to the Router's Switch.

3. External Ehterent Cable Modem with a CAT5e Cable to connect to the Router's WAN Port.
