I've got to build a simple PC for my someone, whose usage is :

1. Email
2. Browsing occassionally
3. Kids usage of the PC for school related work, some stuff like encyclopedia, etc

They currently have a PIII 1GHz based system, but the motherboard has developed a fault.

I am thinking of a simple Intel 865 chipset based motherboard (as 875 might be an overkill), with Sound and Graphics on board. And a P4 2.4GHz CPU, or something around that mark, with 512MB of RAM. Existing hard disk, CD-RW, etc will be used.

Stability is the critical issue here. No overclocking or performance boost or any such requirements.

Please help me with your suggestions. Many thanks.....

If juts for e-mail and general use then save your money and get a Athlon-XP setup.

Board: Biostar M7VIZ KM400 Has onboard video, sound, ethernet, and SATA. Very stable and will do everything you need.

CPU: Athlon XP 2500+ retail will do fine

Ram: 512mg of Mushkin, Geil, gigaram, etc... something that has a good amount of feedback and/or warrenty

This system will be very stable, fast, and be a great budget system. They board has a AGP slot so you could always upgrade to a newwer video card later.
