Simple geometry problem

Two cars start off at the same point on a straight highway facing opposite directions. Each car drives for 6 miles, takes a left turn, and drives for 8 miles. How far apart are the two cars?

Lay a circle around the two triangles.
Integrate the area of the circle.
Integrate the areas bounds by the external arcs.
Subtract these areas from the area of the circle.
Divide the remaining area by 4.8 x 2 (one for each triangle).
Profit.

NM, since the forums seem to hate my text drawings.

A straight line 12 miles long (6 miles each way). An 8 mile long line at each end of the line, in opposite directions, one up, one down. Draw a line connecting the two line ends. You now have two right angle triangles. 6^2 + 8^2 = 100. Square root of 100 is 10. Double 10 since there are two triangles = 20. Or you can do 12^2 + 16^2 = 400. Square root of 400 is 20.

If you still don't understand, kill yourself.
