For my high school science fair project, I want to develop a simple computer game (teacher said it was acceptable). I am thinking of making a simple 2D game like galaxian. What tools do you think I would need to create such a game? I know C++ and Visual Basic. Are those languages alright for programming a game?

Also, this project is due in january. Do you think I have enough time to make such a game?
 
For a simple game like that, VB should be sufficient. You can even use DirectX
in VB if you have DX7 or higher.
