simple filing question (manila folders)

So I got some letter-sized manila folders and a filing cabinet for them...but...my stack of folders is only an inch or two thick, while the depth of the cabinet is like 14 inches...how do I make it so they don't fall over? Is there some trick or do you just put something behind the files like a bookend?

No, I don't want hanging file folders. This is for plain manila envelopes.

Most filing cabinets have a groove at the bottom for a simple device that compresses the contents. Would be perfect for you.

If you have a cat or small dog, just put it in the drawer as a filestop. Tranquilize them first of course.





Of course every file cabinet I've used has had a wire or plate to put behind the files when the full depth was not being used. But the cat is more entertaining.

there should be a stop in the middle that you can move back and forth, you lift it up on the back side of it.

I got super-nice wooden one from Staples. Today I bought the cheapo cardboard ones just for manila envelopes. Both have NOTHING!! Arg! This should be a mature technology. Someone needs to install linux on these filing systems :| Oh well, I'll just find something heavy to put in behind it
