Simple file sharing > unchecked

Hello all,
I have a small problem I was hoping someone would be able to help me out.

SETUP:
2 computers
Desktop > XP Pro > hard wired >static IP address 192.168.1.2
Laptop > XP Pro > wireless > static IP address 192.168.1.5
Both log onto a WRT54G router.

Both computer can surf the internet, ping each other, share files all under Simple File Sharing. But once I turn one of the computers, either the Laptop or the Desktop, to Advanced File Sharing (uncheck the simple file sharing) neither computer can access each other. They still can however surf the web and ping one-another. I can see the other computer under Workgroup computers but I get the error: "The network path was not found" on the desktop and, "Logon failure" on the laptop.

Keep in mind that I have not changed any permissions, all I changed was I unchecked the use simple file sharing.

I want to use advanced file sharing to block access to some shared folders

Please help me resolve this problem.
Thank you

Okay so you turned off simple file sharing and enabled advanced file sharing. Did you share anything out?

Try to connect to each computer like this.

\\192.168.1.2 (from .5 and vise versa)

If you are infact sharing somthing you will see it there. Once thats settled then you can deal with the permissions issue.

Thank you for the reply JRock.

I wish it was that easy. I have tried \\192.168.1.2 and .5 but I get the same erros as from "view workgroup computers." Any yes I am sharing, 6 folders from the desktop and 3 from the laptop. All works fine with simple file sharing, same shared folders and everything but once I uncheck simple file sharing...no more sharing.

If you have identical user accounts on both computers (with same passwords), you can connect the computers by connecting to \\computername\C$, D$, etc. Both computers must having simple file sharing off.
