Simple file sharing question

Ok...this is probably simple to everyone here except the Windows-challenged like myself. I'm trying to copy some files from my niece's laptop to mine. I've got a crossover cable connecting them... now what? 😱

share your neice's c: drive, then on your laptop go to my computer and then tools, map network drive, when it asks for the location type: \\whatevertheIDofyourneiceslappyis\c$

should fix ya up.

Hmm... when I click browse, I can't find her c drive. Is there a quick way to get the "ID" of her computer?

Thanks

right click on my computer, click properties and look under the network identification tab. thats how it is in windows 2000 anyway. look for the computer name.

Have you configured your network properly? There is a step-by-step tutorial for file sharing with two computers and a crossover cable here.
