Simple Algebra problem

I have been working on a simple algebra problem.

-3x+6/11+5x-2/11=8/11

I keep getting x=2

Anyone else getting this as well?

Thanks for your help.
 
like other's have said, x = 2/11

That was abotu the easiest problem ever, though. Combine like terms and divide by 2.

How did you you come up with that.

Here is what I did (Remember I'm very new to Algebra, I have not used in in over 10 years. Trying to teach self again)

-3x+6/11+5x-2/11=8/11

Simplified to

-3x+4/11+5x=8/11 - This after adding both 6/11 to -2/11
4/11+2x=8/11 - This after adding 5x and -3x
4+2x=8 - This after multiplying 11 to both sides
2x=4 - This after subracting 4 from both sides
x=2 - This after deviding by 2 on both sides.

I know I have it wrong, can anyone walk me through it. Thanks for your help.

You should get 4 + 22x = 8 after multiplying 11 to both sides.

You can if you look at the problem as being 2x+4 over 11. That's how I did it as well.

You can if you look at the problem as being 2x+4 over 11. That's how I did it as well.

Yeah, but you did it wrong. It's not (2x+4)/11, it's 2x+(4/11).

He never said how exactly the numbers were listed so I just assumed that the -3x+6 was over 11 and that the 5x-2 was over 11.

Working it out with the numbers that way would give you x=2.

Go back to 7th grade and learn order of operations. Division is performed before addition. If he wanted (-3x+6)/11, he would have needed parentheses.

You don't have to be such an asshole. I didn't look at the problem the right way and I got the wrong answer. I'm willing to admit that but I know my orders of operations so kiss my ass. You can tell people they are wrong without insulting them.

I did it without insulting you, but you kept posting... three different times after getting the wrong answer, and not one of them said 'oops, I did it wrong".

I posted twice to explain how I got that answer. I wasn't sure I had gotten it wrong until you pointed out the thing with the parentheses. At that point I realized that I had done it wrong and I admitted it. Telling someone that they need to go back to the 7th grade is an insult.

Calm down guys. No one is wrong. If anyone is wrong, it's the thread starter who should've posted the correct answer along with the problem. That way we would've known whether it's -3x+6/11 OR (-3x+6)/11
