I am sure this answer is simple, but I couldn't find what I was looking for with a search. Since the Athlon 64 X2 is a 939 socket, will it work with motherboards for the regular Athlon 64, 939s?

I haven't been keeping up to date and want to upgrade from my XP2600. I basically want to by a A64 3000 or 3200 now, and know what the max processor I will be able to put in it later.

Thanks

On any Nforce4 variety motherboard. If you choose the Via K890 chipset solution Dual core X2 probably won't work.

Literally, all the 939 motherboard (NF3, NF4, KT800, etc) besides KT890 (VIA officially announced that KT890 WILL NOT work with X2) should work, as long as the mobo manufacture is not too lazy and decides to make updated BIOS for X2.
