I got 2 dell units that i'm looking to install new PCI-E cards in. One was bought about 3 months old. and the other when dual core launched.

dimension E510 and a inspirion 530 both have a PCI-E 16x and a 1x as well.

my e510 has a 305W PSU and i assume just about the same for the 530 or maybe a 350w

either way i understand that running a card like 8800GT need a connection from the PSU in which i dont have and would need some spliter cables and adapters. Not interested in all that stuff.

Both computers aren't extreme gaming. light Counter-strike and maybe COD.

budget is $100ish each card.

anyone recommend me a certain 8600 or another cards simliar to it for my needs.

If you dont need DX 10, I would search for a 7900GS. Its faster than an 8600 and works great. You might need to find a used one at that price, but it will be worth it.

The cards that need the aux power usually come with a splitter that will allow you to swipe power from a fan supply,

If you can swing it the 8800GS has a great bang/$ ratio, they go as low as $110 AR. Check the hot deals forum.

On the ATI side you can do a HD 3650 for $65 AR.

i know that the 8800GT works but they say its pushing the limits. plus $200 isn't what i want to spend since i will barely use it to the potiental.

looking on what DX10 stuff included.

7900gs are obsolete and do considerably worse in COD4 than 8600gt.

To OP: You are better off with a 8600gt. 8800gs is good card but you need more than 350watt dell power supply most likely.

You don't have much choices 2600xt, 8600gt, 3650 which perform about the same with each other.

I wouldn't reccomend an 8800GT I was talking about the 56 watt 8800GS for $110 .

Personally I have always found that, sooner or later, I end up using as much technology as I can afford; it prolongs your upgrade path.
