Similarities of Though Process Between Programming and Calculus/Algebra?

I always did really good in math up to my sophomore year in high school, but then I really got more interested in music so I lost interest in it. I never really ventured into Calculus, but what I saw of it in the past seemed comprehendable and calculable to me. Anyways, I did get a bit heavy into programming, and love the logic of it. Someone mentioned that calculus is like programming, in a way (not exactly), and I am curious, since I don't have much experience in calculus, what those similarities might be.

Anybody care to comment? Please do if you feel inclined.

i always thought it was more like geometry. for me geometry was often about building proofs out of basic abstractions that each served a particular purpose. i find it useful to think of software in the same way. i would also say the same thing about the first part of organic chemistry.

it depends on the kind of programming. i love calc and programming, but i don't enjoy long programming projects that require lots of organization and planning. i prefer writing short ones that solve a problem.
