And for some of you, the wait won’t be long thanks to our first big announcement: beta! Yep, you asked for it - we’ll be running an exclusive beta before SimCity’s launch that will give a generous group of lucky fans an opportunity to not only don their mayor hats early, but also have a chance to provide valuable feedback straight to the team here at Maxis. We’ll be releasing more details on the beta soon, so in the meantime, visit the beta section of SimCity.com to sign up today.

Woot!

*mutters something about origin then stomps off*

Actually I'm curious. Thanks for the heads up.

edit: Their little survey seems to be incompatible with firefox. It's suppose to have a browse button for finding your dxdiag file but instead it's just a text link that does nothing. Had to do the survey in IE. I'm not entirely sure what they really wanted. I ran dxdiag and submitted the text file it created. No instructions near it, it just says "dxdiag" with a browse button. Hopefully they put more thought into the game itself.. lol

Haha. I imagine that if you don't know what dxdiag is (and how to submit its output) then you're not very valuable to beta testing. If that is their intent, I like it.

I went ahead and signed up. EA has invited me to a few alphas and betas (some unsolicited) so I imagine that I have a good chance of being chosen.

That did cross my mind while doing it. They will easily weed out the kids this way.

I hope it doesn't follow the same path that the Roller Coaster Tycoon series did. I remember feeling that RT3, while having awesome 3D graphics, felt somewhat simplified compared to its predecessors.

Especially with a city building simulation, dumbing down is a direct affront to what makes the game so fun.

Weird it worked fine for me in Firefox

Typically, when it comes to software, the less you know about it, the easier it is to break. So a computer illiterate person can be a very valuable beta tester.

Shit now I'm paranoid I may done something stupid... I saved a dxdiag file and uploaded it, only weird thing was that I got no prompt saying I was uploading a file. It went through though. :hmm:
