Simcity 4 runs like "mollases uphill in winter"

Don't worry about simcity4. its a badly optimized game that runs crappily and will lag with more than, say, 11 buildings no matter what.

Yeah. Back in the day I expected my Tbird 1.33ghz, 512mb ram, and a original Radeon 64 to run it pretty slow. And it did. Yet even today with an Opty 146, 1.5GB ram, 7800GT.. well it doesn't run a whole lot better. I hear its quite RAM hungry, but either way as the above poster said, its badly optimized. Definitely playable with my new rig, but not really worth it and i like Sim City 2000 and 3000 more anyway.

Looks like I got beat to the punch but, yes.
Even on good hardware it runs poorly. Its not a big shooter so nobody bothered to optimize performance. I think the patches are just for compatibility, so it doesnt run too horribly on a variety of hardware.

And I also prefer 2000 and 3000. So its not a big issue.
The only thing I like about 4 was that you could build the neighboring towns and have a SimCounty.

Simcity 4 seems to have serious issues with ATI hardware. I haven't tried my X1900XT with the Cat 6.6s yet though.

I got ripped off too. I bought it when it first came out and realized that it was completely unplayable once you have a city of over 100 000 people.

Yea, i was sitting thinking this is bullcrap! Why the hell are they doing this to me!! The games not good as it is, zones with no transport access wont rearrage themselves so they have access to the road right next to them (put in bus stops and you will know what i mean) you cant turn off those stupid little roads it puts in for you, and it uses useless streets, the people take the nearest route rather than the fastest, making railways etc pretty useless in sc4..... god damnit will wright WHAT WERE YOU THINKING!!!

Oh yea and it runs garbage on my ATI card. I found a partial solution.... software rendering runs it much faster, but software rendering crashes to desktop every so often.

Actually you can turn off those automatic roads... I think it's holding down shift while zoning. Might have been Ctrl or Alt, I haven't played it in so long I can't exactly remember.

Yes ive been using shift and making 3x20 zones along avenues. It still sucks balls that theres no ticky box options for it and i have to hold down a button.
