Simcity 4 hardware rendering problem

Hey simcity 4 owners,

I just installed simcity 4 on my laptop to try to get some play time in on trips, but I can't get it to use hardware acceleration. I've got DirectX 9 installed along with the latest drivers. I'm running an IBM T30, with a 16MB Radeon Mobility 7500 chip in it. Seems like it should work and I've even tried appending -d:hardware to the shortcut run target, but it still doesn't work. Anyone else having problems?

The game works soooo slow! I'm on a P4-M/2.0 GHz with 512MB RAM. Seems like a powerhouse computer if you ask me, but Simcity 4 kills it! help!

try searching the forum for SimCity 4 and you'll see my post about it and Unreal 2.

Lots of info in there about how slow the game is.

I saw that post, but the main problem I'm having is that I set the rendering mode to hardware and it automatically jumps back to software. I don't understand why it would be doing that. I have the latest driver and directX installed plus, I'm using the radeon mobility 7500 which should have hardware rendering support. Any ideas?

my understanding is that the radeon problem is that when you scroll, the building dissappear. I can't even enable hardware rendering to experience that problem 🙂 I'd happily trade better performance for disappearing buildings. But it won't let me for some reason.

fyi, the newest patch should fix the radeon problem

Patch 1.0.242.0 :
"Added support for ATI Radeon R300 series that add backing store capability. "
