SIMAP - anything not working?

I have just checked my SIMAP-stats and I was not impressed with my numbers. Then I checked the pending credits: 233 WUs (approximately 1 600 credits) are pending!

The server/deamon-stats page says:

Results ready to send __________ 35,694
Results in progress ____________ 55,483
Workunits waiting for validation ______ 0
Workunits waiting for assimilation ____ 0
Workunits waiting for deletion _______ 0
Results waiting for deletion _________ 0
Transitioner backlog (hours) ________ 0

Does this make sense? Are those "pending" WUs included in the "Results in progress" - number? Or should they be included in "Workunits waiting for validation"?

It seems an awful lot of WUs pending.
For all my other projects I have a total of 72 WUs pending (that is about normal). From seti, einstein, predictor, and LHC I am used to having 5 - 25 WUs pending not 233!

Any comments? Ideas?

That number is ok. I've been doing SIMAP for the last month and it has mostly always been like that for me. I stopped crunching SIMAP WUs about 10 days ago and I still have about 10 WUs pending. The SIMAP project is still fairly small and their hardware isn't really anywhere near to SETI or Rosetta specs. It just takes time, Peter. :) Also, I guess most people don't do SIMAP exclusively, so the results take time to come in. If you check your WUs, you should find that they miss one or two for the quorum, which also was raised recently to 3 IIRC. Thus, it takes even longer.

Hope this helps a bit.

I suspected that patience is necessary - I do not mind waiting.
Whom am I fooling? :Q Of course I want my credits now, not tomorrow or the day after, but now - or preferably yesterday!!! :D
Considering this BOINC-month and TAS and so on I think I will decrease the resources for SIMAP midmonth or when I have more than 3 000 credits pending ;)

We need to recruit more crunchers for SIMAP - so that the quorum is reached faster ...

PS: The SIMAP servers were down for a few hours this morning Peter, I don't know if that short outage contributed to what you are describing or not

Well: If I have credits pending they do not show up in the stats until validated.
So: if I reduce resources mid-February most of my crunched WUs will get validated before the end of month and I can use the resources for other projects (such as Rosetta) which gives the credits faster than SIMAP.

The other way is to get more people to crunch SIMAP. If that happens, more crunchers will share the job of validating and that will happen faster because the number of available WUs is finite and thus the WUs will get crunched the second and third time faster, and we will all get our credits faster.

Tactics is fun, isn't it? The idea behind the first tactic is to load as much as possible into the "pending queue", when there is a sufficient number of WUs in the queue (so that I get credits for some days even if I do not crunch), move on to the next project, and crunch. The last project will be rosetta, since there the credits are awarded at once - no waiting time!

I do not think that the outage this morning has contributed so much - most of my WUs were uploaded during the passed three days ... and I will continue crunching at full tilt for some time (until Feb 17 or 18 ...) :)

This is the first time I have participated in a project and experienced the quorum system for awarding points. I certainly have been spoiled in Rosetta.

you would have laughed as I went scrounging around through the results I have turned in to try and figure out why my points were so low. (I claim ~12.5 for each WU and get awarded ~6 on a regular basis)

I've been making every effort to comfort myself in that this is not another "AMD/Fast Computer tax".

Never the less, I'm having fun boosting SIMAP!

my "pending" seems a little higher than normal, 1307 this morning. usually its ~ 600-800.

i can picture you Sid, pouring over your results, your brow furrowed with worry determination :p

Yeah, Mondo: you produce about 5 times as much as I do and you have about 5 times as much pending as I have - makes sense. Good to know. Thx! :)
