Anyone know if it's being made? I'm a huge Sim City nerd. I've made awesome cities in the original, the SNES one, 2000, 3000, and 4.

I've been waiting my whole life for the ultimate Sim City.

I stopped @ Sim City 2000. Hell I began there and sotpped there. I had the uber Win 95 version which was awesome. I mastered it and then I wanted to play Sim City 4, but it was too late by the time I got a computer that could play it, so I jumped onto City Life which came out earlier this summer. Pretty good, but tough. I think after a while it seems pretty simple too and not too complicated. Sim City 4 just looks like a mess compared to Sim City 2000.

i'd love it, but it will never happen, beacuse the only people who would buy it are teh ones who've played the others.

SC4 is great, pity it's so shockingly coded tho...

Well, it isn't too bad considering that its trying to simulate thousands/millions of people simultaneously.

EDIT: And before anyone asks, no, my name has nothing to do with SimCity 4. :p

yeah, but it doesn't scale. I've played it on a wide range of CPUs/Mobos/RAM amounts/GFX cards, and the experience has always been pretty awful. More RAM helps, but that's about it. It barely pushes my 6600GT temps above idle at 1600x1200, all details maxed ;)

I've enjoyed the SimCity games, but Sim City 4 is unplayable on my Radeon X1900XT. I've heard that its an issue with the way SC4 is coded and that its a driver issue inside Catalyst.

It will be made and released when the Sims becomes old. Until then, continue to play SimCity 4.

I play it from time to time.

I :heart:ed 2k, I felt ripped off with 3000 so I didn't buy 4, although I did get to play it briefly, and I was impressed, but not enough to want to play more than one game.

I played SC4 on an XP2500/512mb/R9600Pro system for the longest damn time. never had any problems, except initial load-times.

It works brilliantly on my Opteron 165 (that's teh dualcore)/2gb/Dual 7800GT, though.

The original was a fun game. SC2k was mindlessly entertaining - you could spend days building a city, and it was virtually impossible to screw up. SC3k introduced SO many more dynamics, and it suddenly became very possible to make a city that failed. SC4 continued the micromanagement evolution and now it's virtually impossible for a human being to make a city that works well.

if so, it won't be for awhile.. as Spore is what Will Wright has been working on.
and btw, yes I am going to be one of the first to get that game. I am stoked for it. :)

I doubt we'll see another Sim City until a good while after Spore comes out. Which is fine with me, because spore is going to own my life.

SC4 is pretty good though. I like it alot more than the previous versions. Kind of sad that I have a hard time to get people to use highways though, but I think that's my horrible ability to plan citys.

I played all the SC games from the SNES version on up. I loved SC4 up until you reach about 100k in population, then it bogs down to crap and you can't even move the screen around.

SC4 worked well for me too on my 6600gt, 1 gig ram (512 now since 1 of it died), AMD winchester 3000+ and on a raptor 74 giger for fast load times. The game is awsome. Since it is simulation game, it is truely hard and you have to go slowly through the game (for me at least) to do calculations/such such. Not to mention the expansion Rush Hour added some imporvements such as road layouts. Great great game.

2000 was the best. 3000 started to become overbloated, and 4000 is a micromanagers nightmare.

SC2K wasn't exactly my generation, although I remember playing it on my very first computer (HP P200MMX, Windows 95 :p) and making this gigantic city full of people, then getting a kick out of destroying it with the natural disasters. SimCity 3000 was significantly harder, at least to me, and SimCity 4 was WAY too effin complicated and IMO messed with the formula of SC2K. Much like the RollerCoaster Tycoon games, RCT and its expansion packs were remarkable, RCT2 didn't deviate much from the original and was pretty much another expansion, RCT3 ruined it.
