Okay so I just dug out my old Sim City 2000 CD-ROM because I feel like playing some old school games. The only problem is that Windows XP will not recognize the program or even the CD-ROM. Sim Tower worked fine, but I think that came out a couple years later. I know there is a demo out there (entire game is less than 2MB) where you get 30 minutes to play before it cuts off. I am asking if there is a way to alter any files or possibly download the entire full game (legally) to play since I already have the game and CD-ROM right in front of me. Any reply is appreciated.

If it doesn't recognize the CD at all, its possible the disk is scratched beyond repair or there is something wrong with the drive itself. There are DOS and Win95 versions of SimCity 2000.

If the drive is not seeing the CD, sometimes it works if you leave the disk in the drive and reboot.

However, there isn't a way to DL it legally. Since you own the legal CD though, I doubt anyone would give you any flak if you found a BT site and DLed a fresh ISO and burned it.

Okay well I figured out DOSBox, but its very lame. Extremely laggy and the graphics are horrible unless played in a 7 inch box. I will try that reboot thing. I think it might just be a very very old CD-ROM because under my computer it doesn't even know that there is anything at all on the disk.

Well the Sim City 2000 demo works alright, but there is no way to tell it that I have the full game so therefore it is useless to me (limited gameplay and 30 minute timer). Is there anyway to legally change some files so that it would play the full version? It just kind of makes me mad because its a very fun game to play when bored. Sim City 3000 is alright, but not the same. Again, if there is any legal way to get the demo to work as if it were full version I would appreciate it. I mean...I am not trying to steal anything because I already paid for it however many years ago. In fact, I cannot find anything on Maxis' website about it. It seems they have ended all support for old games (understandable) and has no way to force windows to detect older CD-ROMs (the disk does not look too scratched).

Just play the demo over and over again, that's what I do. Plus I got Simcity 4, so....I don't need 2000 :p

Simcity 2000 for Windows version (95 I think) runs perfectly with no modification at all on my XP system.
