I'm looking to up my PC games IQ and figure Sim City 2000 is an essential. Can't just play FPS's, right? Actually, I'm pretty dumb about PC games.

Well, I'm wondering if it's worth it to pay extra for the boxed edition or am I just wasting money and space to get the extra stuff. Thanks for your answers.

I'd say that you almost always waste your money on the boxed edition on any game.

Sometimes you get something useful in there, but most of the time it just crap.

I didn't even know it existed. I read a review of Sim City 3000 and they said it was sort of a remake of 2000, nothing really new, so I got 2000. I guess I didn't get the Special Edition, and think I maybe goofed. It does have the Urban Renewal package, but maybe not the disaster scenarios. I went without the special boxed edition, too.

Note that it won't run on W2K and higher. My SimCity 3000 is sitting in a box right now because of that.

You mean Sim City 2000 won't run on Windows 2000? Bummer. It's in the mail. Well, I am dual booting so I guess I can use with my Windows 98. I poked all over and didn't see anywhere that it won't run on Windows 2000...

I just downloaded the Sim City 2000 for Windows demo and it seems to be working fine. Is it just SC3000 that won't run? That doesn't make much sense, does it? You can get the demo here.

You may be right. It's weird in that case. SimCity 2K is older than 3K and I know mine won't run.

Then maybe you can tell me if I screwed up by not getting the "Special Edition". I meant to but got Sim City 2000 for Windows CD instead. Will I be missing much? Also, can you give me any tips on how to get into it? Thanks!!!!

No idea. I had the DOS version (1.0 or 1.1) - the difference was that Launch Arcologies didn't actually launch, and some of the cheat codes (like the ones to raise/lower water level) didn't exist. I had the extra scenario packs, but I didn't really like them.

I had a feeling that those _extra_features_ are probably not as essential as the original stuff. It usually works like that, right? At first I thought "Oh, I goofed." Now I think, well, maybe I'm actually better off. It's the more convenient attitude, anyway.
