Silverstone TJ08 Owners - need help on identifying a part, plz...

I've gotten those w/ several cases. I also asked on a forum and the most sensible answer I got was a weight for the front panel wires to keep them in place. I really don't have a clue.

Forget the tech term for it, but it's supposed to have the front panel wiring run through it....prevents interference from affecting them and other wiring in the case.

Like a grommet to prevent snags and such? Or a ferrite core for electrical interference?

Thanks for the answers thus far. At least some ppl have run into something like this.

lol

the mystery doughnut [i think i butchered the spelling]

Anyhow its a ferrite core. Your suposed to run wires though it, however most people ignore it.

:T

It's an RF inhibiting ferrite core ring. Running the front wires through it won't do much but, if you wrap them around it once per wire set the ferrite is supposed to absorb low frequency RF signals to decrease the chances of signal interference near fans.

Yeah, ferrite core. DUH! And every one I've had that came installed in a case, come to think of it, had the wires wrapped around the core once, as Derwen said.

I design electronics that deal with GREAT deals of heat, RF and other odd types of interference, ferrite cores are used a lot for board interconnects where teh real-estate is available, atleast during testing phases. We use scary ammounts of shielding on finished products.

Yup, I remember answering this question then as well. It's a ferrite ring - LED and switch wires go thru and wrap once. Supposed to help keep RFI out of the mobo. You hardly ever see them any more - cost cutting you know. I use twist tie, zip tie or the double sided foam mounting tape to keep 'em from rattling around.

.bh.

Hehe - I'm a noob!!!

I've used mostly Antec cases in the past, and I've never run into this thing.

Thanks again!!!
