I have an athlon xp 1800+ and 2200+, which are supposed to support SSE. It wont install for me. "Unable to install silverlight" "your processor is not supported". is there a work around?

I wonder if it actually needs support for SSE2?

The odd thing is, I've got a 1.8GHz Duron at work and I'm almost positive I have Silverlight installed on it

What's so special about Silverlight that wouldn't make it work on an Athlon XP? I thought it was just a Flash replacement.

Really? Why cant I install silverlight 2 on my system then? I just want to stream netflix dammit! Netflix needs to work on a linux implementation that does not involve silverlight.

Good question. I confirmed that I've got Silverlight installed on a 1.0GHz Duron (Morgan core, equivalent to a Thunderbird I think), and a 1.8GHz Duron (Applebred core, I forget which AthlonXP that corresponds to, but at least Thoroughbred).

I'm drawing a blank at the moment, but if inspiration strikes, I'll let you know

Something I found googling:
http://www.techimo.com/forum/p...thlon-xp-1700-sse.html

Suggests that:
1. If the CPU that was in the system when Windows (95 through XP) was installed wasn't one that had SSE, you have to reinstall Windows to get SSE to work with the new CPU.
2. Your CPU may support SSE, but you may need a BIOS update for the motherboard to work with SSE.
a) In some cases there may not be a BIOS update, or there may be a third-party BIOS update.
b) Upon updating, you'll probably need to (see #1) reinstall Windows, because at the time it was installed it didn't see SSE.
