Friends,

Silver Braided Cable Review

"Both the ground and data wires are twisted together in pairs, which should actually provide better shielding than a normal cable, though there is a higher change of crosstalk"

Is this true? I know this works for network cables(i.e. CAT X) but does it hold the same for IDE cables as well?

"I certainly couldn't notice any improvements or drops in hard disk speed, even when tested Sisoft Sandra (have a look here of you want to see proper results)."

Assuming there really isn't, how about the shielding from interference stuff, does it really work or is it just "marketing"?

Thus, aesthetic-benefits, neatness-factor, and better airflow advantages aside are there other technological advantage(s) of using silver braided ATA-100 IDE cables compared to ordinary ones?

Biggs

None.

I use two (2 connector) of these and I would say the only advantage over regular IDE cables is looks and function (i.e. not cluttering up your case). They are no better than any other cable out there.

Well, are you trying to say it's purely marketing hype? So what can you say about this one?

well, on the 8 gig, there is no difference (the random seek time and burst read is a different, but he only posted the result of one test). The actual speeds across the drive surface are the same. on the guy's other drive, the results really are identical, and the 2nd drive is faster, meaning it is a better test of the cable (if you have a really slow drive, it won't tell you anything about the cable, but a fast drive will be more limited by poor cables).

Basically... he read the results wrong - on the faster drive there was NO speed difference.

I read a couple more reviews on that guy's site - he loves everything he reviews. In the hard drive cooler review, he cites temperature differences but doesn't explain any benefits to a cooler hard drive or provide any comparison to other solutions for cooling drives.
