Wireless Access Point: Only serves as a Wireless Access Point and interfaces to wired network/modem through network jack. No wired connections.
In a way WAPs (Wireless Access Points) are more secure because you can put them outside your firewall (which is where all Wi-Fi should be). With a router your wireless is directly interfaced with your physical network, creating a possible security hazard.
