Silly question? Will 32bit apps/games run normally under Windows 64bit?

OK, this is probably a newbie type of question, but I just haven't thought about it much.

If I have a 64bit machine with Windows XP 64bit OS, will all my typical 32bit apps and *games* run normally? Or is there some type of compatability mode that needs to be enabled?

Yes they will run fine.

You have likely already run a 16bit app on a 32bit system right? The process is called "thunking". If you google it there are some interesting reads.

The only code that really has to be 64 bit are drivers.

kinda what I thought...but I just had this momentary panic due to my ignorance of the 64bit platform.....

Yep, as mentioned 64-Bit windows will emulate 32-bit addressing without a problem. Until all my common apps / games go 64-bit I fail to see why the home user needs a 64-bit system.

Agreed....if you already have a 32bit version. But, since I'm doing a brand new build, the price is the same ofr 32bit and 64bit, and the trend is for apps/games to become 64bit....then why not get 64bit, right?:cookie:

EDIT: or maybe not...it seems the greatest problem is finding 64bit drivers as 'Smilin' said.....that really seems to be an issue for people and not one I'd want to pass on to a customer.......I think I'm going to stick with 32bit for now until 64bit becomes more mainstream..........
