Silly DVD Question?

when one wishes to purchase a DVD drive for a computer, does one still need to purchase a DVD Decoder Card or do current sound card and video card technology take care of that function??

Its mostly software now. Most new DVD players will include a player in the software bundle.

Any CPU over 400mhz or so and handle Software decoding just fine.

Friend,

Software DVD players like PowerDVD and WinDVD paired with a fast processor is an excellent alternative(in fact quite better) than PCI hardware-based encoders like Hollywood Plus.
