should i use the thermal pad that is already on the heatsink, or take it off and use some silicone thermal paste? Which provides better heat transfer? :confused:

If you're using a duron/t-bird, use hte pad that comes with AMD approved chips. you'll get better performance than with silicon grease.

Artic silver IS the way to go, but even regular thermal paste will do better than most stock shipped pads...

That is incorrect. PCTC Pads available on Socket A heatsinks is superior to cheap greases, and even superior to middle-grade greases.
