Silicon Knights returns for X-Men: Destiny

What, you expected Too Human 2?

Marvel and Activision have revealed a new title based on the X-Men comic franchise, X-Men: Destiny.

Not much is known about the title yet but the announcement was made as part of the New York Comic-Con which kicks off tomorrow. Heralded X-Men scribe, Mike Carey, is responsible for the storyline of the game which will have players taking on the role of a new mutant recruited to the X-Men team. The game will have a "branching storyline that features a deep element of choice and gives players ultimate control of their destiny."

Development duties will be handled by Silicon Knights who was last seen with the Xbox 360 exclusive, Too Human. That game didn't live up to expectations so it will be interesting to see how Dennis Dyack and company redeem themselves here.

So far it sounds like a RPG-lite/action title of some sort. The official website, XMenDestiny.com, is supposed to launch sometime later today so we'll get a better understanding of the game then.

Those lucky enough to be attending the New York Comic-Com will be able to check X-Men: Destiny out for themselves at the Activision booth (#1833). Marvel and Mike Carey will also be talking about the game during a panel on Saturday at 10:45 AM.

While an announcement for which console the game will launch on is not known right now a PC, PS3 and XBox 360 release seems likely given Activision multiplatform strategy. We'll have to wait and see if the Wii, DS and PSP are included.

Hurray, Silicon Knights. But I think I'd rather have a sequel to Eternal Darkness first.

I actually enjoyed Too Human, except for the ridiculously long unskippable death scene.

No. I want a goddamn Eternal Darkness sequel.

But, no, they're not making one... possibly out of fear of success and money.

Give me Too Human 2!! That was a good game, and since I didn't care about all the stupid Neogaf stuff I was able to look at the game through neutral eyes and enjoyed it. Put in almost 100 hours on all my characters.

I'm Looking forward to this. Unless Eternal Darkness was a one hit wonder (which seems rather unlikely) these guys have the talent to make some really interesting work. I really enjoyed Too Human despite it's flaws. The death animation was unfortunate, but besides that the game was solid. However, with a proper build and technique you don't really see it all that often outside an epic boss battle.
