has anyone ever heard or used a raid card based on the Silicon Image SIL680 chipset??? any opinions would be helpful as well as if this is a worthy purchase

I have a BELKIN RAID card based on this chip. Manual of the card

It is OK, and I paid about $20.00 at BB about a year ago. This card is capable of running ATAPI devices (DVD-ROM. CDRW etc.) that not many chipsets are capable of.

I recommend SI based PATA RAID cards all the time because they are so flexible. Run just about any IDE device and also does RAID if you need it. Like the Syba from dealsonic.com, less than $25. shipped.
