i have a K8N-E Deluxe

it has 6 SATA ports, 1 and 2 are bove the AGP slot and they are powered by the Nvidia chipset. i think. they are coloured red where as the other 4 are coloured black

the other 4 sata ports are on the bottom of the board near said silicon image chip. does this mean 3,4,5 and 6 are locked to a 33mhz frequency? i cant find anything in the manual. i wanna get overclocking but i think im being held back by the sata ports im currently on

if the 4 silicon image ones are locked, can i just plug my 2 HDD in and carry on as normal? or do i have install the raid drivers? i dont want to use raid, just have 2 seperate disks.

also how does RAID 0+1 work on the nvidia ports if there is only 2 ports? dont you need 4 drives for 0+1?

the four red are SI, the two black are nvidia
the board supports RAID 1 OR RAID 0 (mirroring or striping)
you have to load "drivers" if Win XP install did not load WHQL versions from manuf., even if no RAID
a mobo controller doesnt run unless its first seen by O/S.
If you used Win XP - it didnt
If you used XPSP1 it may have loaded one or the other
If you used XPSP2 it prob did load both nv and SI.
You have to check in dev man.

For a quick check, when you load the harddrives, if they are recognized, then they are prob O.K., but you may wish to upgrade drivers in dev manager under sata

sorry i cant quite understand what you mean, i am using XPSP2 so that mean i have those silicone image drivers ready to go? i thought u had to make a boot up disk?

my board supports RAID 0, 1, 0+1, 5, 10 and JBOD. JBOD seems the most useful to me, but i just want 2 seperate drives
