Seriously, try burning one of your cards.

Preferably one that you don't need anymore.
Preferably after removing it from the system it's in.

It really does a cool light show. It takes a few minutes for the flame to penetrate and get down to the silicon I think, but after about 3-4 mins, you can see green flame coming from it, and a few minutes later the blue/red/violet'ish flames also come in. It's really somethin to see.

I used an old ISA network card that my school was throwing away. And no, unfortunately, I don't have a digital camera, so I was unable to get pics. My school is throwing out many more cards, though, so if someone wants to lend me a camera..... ;)

Same effect can be had by throwing a copper pipe into a fire. It works with lots of metals for different colors, and I imagine the card contains lots of those. I don't know offhand what metal turns the fire what color, but i know it DOES work

The green you're seeing is from the copper underlayer in the pcb burning, the other colors are from assorted metals in there that make up other componets. I doubt you're actually burning any silicon, if anythin you might justbe charring it a little. I've taken a oxygen-acetylene torch to a card before and could only char the IC's! be careful no matter what because oil filled capacitors will shoot off like rockets ;)

Lol exactly, no crossing of the state borders for cool fireworks anymore :D It scared the hell out of me when I had the card burning and felt something warm fly and hit my goin area :) I soon figured out it was a flaming hot capacitor that smacked into my pants
