Silenx Fans Are a Joke!

*Fair warning to all*

I bought some Silenx fans about a month ago. They seemed a little loud when I got them, but I said to myself "It's because they are pushing all of that air."

Well I just got some Panaflo fans to test them because I could get them cheap. It actually turns out that the Panaflo fans are quieter and push ALOT more air...I don't have any numbers to back it up, but it doesn?t take a rocket scientist to hear the difference here.

I just sent an email to Silenx asking for my money back and saying that their advertisements are misleading. I'll keep everyone posted on how this turns out.

All you had to do was look at some websites. No (or virtually no) website has ever claimed that SilenX made good products, on the contrary they most said that they are horrible.

I'm not going to look for it but SPCR held the owners feet to the fire..

Look around silentpcreview.com and you'll find it. Oh! It's in their forums. They
beat him up pretty good...

Actually I did look at some websites and found that it was about a 50/50. If there was any chance that they were what they were supposed to be I was in. I was planning on comparing the Silenx when a well known fan came on sale and then do a review. I had no idea that it would be this big of a difference. Let's see how bad this company is. I WILL GET MY MONEY BACK! Mark my words...

You'll have to look for it or later today one of the SPCR regulars that posts here might link it.
They will not miss your thread title :D that is for sure.

Cutting to the chase......The guy that started that company was signing on different forums under many names pushing his own goods. SPCR caught him doing it on their board. He would ask about these fans then answer his own question with rave review and high praise!!
He got by with it for awhile.

Most of the good 50 you read on-line of the 50/50 were probably his posts. I hope you do get your moola back but chances are slim to none.

If it sounds to good to be true........You know the rest..Sorry.

Yup, an awful lot of stuff out there is just gussied-up to fool the unwary - X-Connect, SilenX, Das Keyboard. Some of it is outright junk - caveat emptor!!! And do your homework. Many of these fanboy sites are happy just to have a company send them stuff to review so they are biased going in - then you quickly find their technical competence to be questionable at best. Find the few sites that do reliable, technically adequate reviews. IOW, most of the reviews aren't worth the electrons they are printed on...

Hmm, I actually use 2 x 120mm SilenX fans, and I think they are very good fans, quiet and they push a lot of air for both used as case/heatsink fans.

And I'll back that....they are excellent fans in every way...and now in black. EDIT* OP I have 4 SilenX fans....still use one in my modded pcp&c psu (80mm) All of mine are extremely quiet...guess why?.....they push very little air....I regret supporting SilenX after discovering the low-down on the company.....their fans (except for the ones OP received) are very quiet at the cost of low cfm's. Their posted specs are truly false advertising in the worst way.

I have them in my rig. Overpriced - Yes, as quiet as advertised - No. But, I haven't found anything better yet. I tried the Antec tri cool - way to noisy except on low. I tried the Panaflo L1A - lots of air but very noisy. And I tried a Papst 4412 - fairly quiet but has a hum of sorts that sounds like a truck idling outside. Couldn't imagine what the noise was and didn't realize it was the computer until I turned it off.

Lots of fans are quiet if you undervolt but you lose airflow, Silenex aren't what they say they are but I haven't found a quiet alternative.

Yes you lose airflow if you under volt, but I think that if you under volt a panaflo fan you will actually get better CFM with the same dBA. It's hard to be loud when you don't push that much air like the Silenx, and I must say that they don't push much air for how noisy they are.

Most fans do alright when undervolted. Nexus are just Yate Loon undervolted. ;)

The Cooler Master fans marketed as "Silent" (120mm versions) or "Rifle Bearing" seem to be decent. My 120mm LED versions get pretty quiet when undervolted without making funny clicking noises.

Nidec and NMB fans can also be quiet, but they're impossible to find unless you rip them out of a name brand machine or get them from an electronics liquidator.

WOOT!

Silenx Employee: "Sorry it didn?t work out for you maybe your fans were just defective. If I can please get your order# so I can take care of it for you. Sorry about that and have a great day!!"

Let?s see if they try to hassle me about buying it from a dealer and not directly from them...please note that you have to buy the fans from a dealer.

Can someone please post a link to these bloody fans, as I haven't heard a thing about them. And obviously, that was a good thing.

FINALLY!

I got a response to my email. It reads: "You would have to work it with distin Coputers we dont know there return
Policy. Sorry"

WOOT FOR COUSTOMER SERVICE! Please note the "there" instead of "their".

My Response Reads:
"Hello,
I am not complaining about Distin Computers, they did an excellent job. I am complaining about the false claims of 14dBA with 64CFM on the IXP-74-14 and 14dBA with 38CFM on the IXP-64-14. This is false advertising and it is wrong. Not one Silenx fan would sell if the true specs were listed. They are low quality and overpriced. I am sorry, but I feel that the company that lies should be held responsible for their product not their reseller."

More to come...

I've learned through my own wasting of money that "silent" is short for "silent when in a vacuum".

The fans themselves are good; their rebadged Adda's, so you are getting good fans. The problem is SilenX changes the fan's specs, over charges for them and the apparently offers really bad customer service, not good .

I'm sure the SilenX fans aren't actually bad fans. They may in fact, be very good quality. But the the listed CFM/dBA are definitely NOT true. That in itself will prevent me from buying them.

Go with a Nexus or Panaflo. You know they are good quality and their reported CFM/dBA aren't pulled out of their rear end.
