Hi
I wonder if someone could answer few of my questions about cpu cooling.

I have an Athlon 900mhz. Its currently running at 50C (57C under load). Motherboard is an Asus A7V133 (KT133a chipset) and running at 32C. I suspect my CPU temperature is too high so I'm looking for new cpu cooler. I have been looking at "Silent Systems Radial Fin medium speed copper cpu-cooler". Is this good choice? It seems to be really silent (22dbA) and is supposed to work with cpu's up to 1ghz.

Second question is what is the normal temperature range for Athlon Thunderbirds @900mhz?

and third and last question is i have grease applied on my cpu right now. Should i remove it before applying new cpu cooler with thermal pad on or should i leave it on cpu? and how do i remove it from my cpu ?

thanks in advance for answering

The Molex Radial hs/fan?
Well lets see a AMD 900mhz Thunderbird Radiates about 55watts and this heatsink as a rating of 0.64 C/W. 55 x 0.64 is 35.2....so your temp with be 35.2 over ambient.

So if your case is 30C/86F
CPU will be about..65C/150F!

Ouch sounds way too hot for me.

Better quiet solutions are going with hihg quality sink like a Alpha PEP66 r2, or a Taisol CGK742/760, and switching it out with a quiet 20~dB fan...adapt is too a 80mm for more additional cooling.

Gizzo is right. Go with a better heatsink (perhaps the new one reviewed on o/c.com?), get an adapter, and use a quiet 80mm fan.

Where did you hear about the taisol cgk760? Is there any info on it on the web or do you personally know anything?
