Silent PC, noticing some extra noise...

I just swapped power supplies in effort to reach my goal of having a silent PC.

I succeeded, but now I hear another noise whenever I scroll in IE, or put my mouse over a link. It sounds like my hard drive, but why would it be doing that? When I'm not scrolling it sounds perfectly quiet.

It's your mouse not sure why but I have noticed on some systems just by moving the mouse you can hear a kind of buzzing noise from the speakers. It is really noticeable when I run audio apps on my laptop with an external mouse hooked up.

Agressor, I'm not trying to be a smart*ss, but if you are that worried about noise, why in the world do you have speakers hooked up anyway?

HALLELUJA! so i am not alone:
i did the same as aggressor and swapped out my perfectly fine 350w psu for an enermax one for quietness...
and the noticed this VERY annoying high-pitched whine which comes on as soon as the users screen os XP kicks in and then when i move the mouse sometimes. I first thought it was the psu [putting the old one back in abolished the problem]; but same with a another new one.
noticed it with my mouse on an older pc in past so swapped my optical mouse for a serial trackball one and still no joy.
[i dont recall turning the speakers off helping]

anyone who has a fix for this: i would be very happy to hear it!

myocardia, I'm not trying to be a smart*ss, but when did I ever say the noise was coming from my speakers? This computer isn't hooked up to any speakers or headphones. It's coming from inside the case.

Also, it doesn't just happen all the time when I move the mouse, only when I scroll (Either using the mouse wheel or the scroll bar) and when I go over links.

i kinda found a fix for this by accident at the nforcershq site!
someone suggested turning the "digitised input" setting on the main page of the nforce tray options to "aux" from off or whatever else it was set at.

i did this and the nigher pitched annoying whine is gone!!! i would be lying if i said it was completely silent now but all that remains is the same sound you nitce when you know a tv is on in a room before you go in [if you know what i mean]. made a fairly big diff to me!

apparantly that whine comes from the m/b circuitry itself if the soundstorm is inactive!

Interesting. I've got the seasonic 300w psu and it's quiet. Now I have 6 hard drives to contend with. They whine, not too loudly, but the box is in my bedroom and I'm a freak about noise.

No, there's no gun under my pillow....it's um, well, close by.

I have a problem like this with my SPEAKERS (everytime i select a link, interference causes my speakers to go BZZT) .. i don't know about PSU's

I just tried that and burnt my eye brows off :disgust: ... but hey at least it fixed the problem i have a silent pc though it doesnt work anymore

Wigwam, thanks for that info. I have a similar problem with my Shuttle MN31/N nForce2 mobo. I narrowed it down to the sound chipset and disabled part of the sound hardware in Windows which lowered the volume of the noise, but it still makes a bit of a high pitched noise. I'll attempt your solution to see what happens.

pleausre - seems we can actually help each other out; mine is also a partial solution like yours, so how did you disable part of the sound hardware [and what part?!]
