Silent Migraines

When I entered teenage years, I started getting horendous migraines. But almost as abruptly as I got them, I've rarely had one since the end of my teenage years.

But after many years, I've started getting 'silent migraines' twice a week for the last 3 weeks, which means an eye aura in both eyes, with impared vision. The first migraine was somewhat terrifying after not having one so long, but the headache never came. Aura's without the headaches are lasting as much as 2 hours, as opposed to 10-15 minutes if a headache follows.

Its bizarre, but I'll take the alternative of no headaches any day.

I get them too, though I never wait to see if they're going to be silent before I kill them with my ridiculous prescription.

I get them once every few months and they're fucking terrible. I do not wish them on anyone.

I don't blame you for not waiting to see. I took 1500mg of ibuprofin the first time before I didn't get a headache afterwards. I don't even remember what prescription worked for me back in the day.

I started getting silent migraines in my late 20's. Sometimes I would have pain, but most of the time it was just the eye problems. They died down quite a bit when the doc put me on a blood pressure med, but I still have some eye trouble once in a while.

Stress has been abundant lately and if I'm am wondering if its affecting my blood pressure and the abundance of migraines.

Dude!

I've had that for over 2 years now. Daily. about 60% of the time I had throbbing headaches as well. It was the migraines without the pain that got me uneasy.

I pondered forever.. tried everything from changing diet, to reducing eye-strain causing habbits(computer) to taking vitamins.

I broke up with my girlfriend and moved out about 2-3 weeks ago. Everything is completely gone.

I have come to the conclusion that one of these may have been causing it:

1)bad air quality in house. (house was very dusty and with animals)

2)bad sleep quality. (I had to fight for space with the dog and the dog usually won) Woke up with sore neck all the time.

3)gf spraying air-freshiners like an addict. (had those auto sprayers that sprayed every 30 minutes as well) (is this stuff toxic?)

4)gf was trying to kill me over the years before she broke up with me by poisoning me

5)constant nagging... nagging... nagging... ... and stress

I was literally calling out of work because I was unable to drive it was so bad. Much of the time I couldn't even leave the house.. I went to a doctor about it who was a complete ass.. and was close to taking myself to the hospital a couple times.

I thought it had something to do with a head injury I had as a child with symptoms coming back but now I'm freaking releaved.

I usually get this if I don't get enough sleep the night before and then perform some above activity that raises my heart rate up [ie: running up stairs] OR if it's bright outside and I don't allow my eyes enough time to get use to the brightness.

When I told an eye doc about this - He suggested to either find a nice quiet place to sit or lay down for about 15-30 minutes and/or take something with caffeine [soda product, tension headache aspirin, etc]

just thinking about those damn auras makes me nauseous.

For me if I look at something directly I can't focus on it. Also there's a blind spot on either side. And nausea accompanies it... then both go away, then the debilitating headache comes. I've found my trigger though - MSG... I watch what I eat.

I guess I'm one of the few that actually welcome the pain. The effects of the aura are faar more disturbing to me than the pain itself. At least I felt something. The aura made me feel like i'm not myself. The aura literally dehumanizes me.

my auras are bizarre. I start to lose my speech function. I can't talk straight, and can't remember words. Everything I want to say goes to the tip of my tongue, and stays there. I completely lose my short term memory, and have a convulsion to close my right eye. I start to feel detached, and everything just doesn't feel right. My head starts to feel "light." Words come out waay off then I intend to. Usually when I have an aura, I just lock myself up and don't talk to anyone. The worse is when I get this at work. I just pop pills and go into the hot car and close my right eye. After about 30 minutes, it's gone. Sometimes, it lasts an entire day, and that drives me nuts. I feel utterly compelled to read with my left eye very close to the book. I feel like I have to do endless math problems to make it go away. If feel like my brain has stopped, and I just have to do something to keep it busy. Sometimes, I'd start to get hundreds of little bright thin lines moving in whichever direction in my vision.

Fecking annoying. It used to be accompanied by the usual pain, but not so much anymore. I welcomed the pain more, because at least I felt like myself, and feel something; unlike the aura, which feels like i'm viewing myself in 3rd person, and can't even talk or do anything.

That sounds close a simple partial seizure rather than just auras. have you ever had an EEG?

Google search: "ocular migraines"

They can be an indication of a serious brain issue or absolutely nothing.

I get some really strange shit too. My doctors over the years have done a lot of testing and found nothing.

My aura is basically like when you see a really shitty old TV that flickers really quickly, reverse video basically, in fractal shapes that I cannot quite focus on in my eyes. Vision becomes blurry and then sharp randomly. The first thing that usually happens is that I feel like my body isn't part of me. I can look at my arm and it would look to my eyes like it belonged on someone else... like you're looking at someone's arm right next to you. This leads to the numbness in all my limbs and the extremely heavy weighed down feeling.

I get them a lot less frequently now that my life isn't all that stressful compared to how it was. There's really nothing worse than the after glow of a migraine, the feeling that shit isn't quite right and it might happen again and all you want to do is to feel normal.

ocular migraines

It happens in both eyes (migraine w/ aura) so it's not ocular.

It's really not that scary, i dont think its any more dangerous than migraines and probably less debilitating since they last a short amount of time. I think its just tricky since teh aura and a simple partial symptoms have ton of overlap. But it sounds like if you dont take the imitrex you can be sure to get the headache so i would think its most likely just auras. Just make sure your doc knows about all the symptoms you feel and rely on his judgment on whether it needs to be worked up further or not.

Dan it's worth getting a scan done. I had a migraine this time last year that put me in the ER and I finally got scanned while I was there. It's reassuring to know something worse isn't looming.

ask for people to refer you to a good chiropractor in your area. see him. he'll probably refer you out for a ct. if it comes back clean, he'll treat you and you should be fine in no time.

one of my friends gets HORRIBLE headaches... well, used to. they weren't migraines, but they were cervicogenic headaches. she got them 5 days a week. i adjusted her twice and she hadn't had a headache again for 6 weeks.
