Is the joke only the simple fact that it's clearly not real?

They constantly force fake / insincere laughter even when there's nothing happening. They "shush" even when there's not yet any challenge to be lost. They pretend like there's some reason to lunge for cards at the same time (never failing to laugh as if that's funny) and then pretend that there's something funny about revealing their cards at the same time. Then they pretend that every scenario is funny when it just isn't.

It would only be funny as a quick satirical parody of extremely fake/pointless shows. But then it goes on and on and on...

I didn't know about this either and I'm not a big fan of late night TV. But it was funny, if obviously more than a bit scripted. I got a kick out of some of the punishments...who thinks of these things? Funny stuff!

I'd like to see a team that doesn't laugh like idiots for every little thing play the game. When I have time I'll check out the other Silent TV Vids in hopes of seeing just such a team.

I laugh like a mountain goat on speed-laced-helium gas when playing something as simple as charades with friends. But not when I'm doing something like "Playing for charity and here are the rules you must follow." I guess I'm task-focused. Or a stick in the mud. I've been called both.

yeah, the shitty american ones are not nearly as funny as the japanese ones imho.
