Silent keyboards ...

Moved the computer to the room and I'm always up late at night ... feel guilty cause my keyboard is just so damned loud. Guarantee the rest of my family can hear it down the hall =p.

Not to mention, it's almost unbearable to me. Been looking at a couple keyboards but I'd love to hear some input from you guys ...

Should I just go to the local Best Buy and play around ?

Hmm ..

And if i'm in the wrong forum, feel free to flame away.

you want one that uses laptop scissor keys. the only one i know of is the Macally Icekeys (or something like that). theyre a mac peripherals-only company, but i dont know why it wouldnt work with windows.

My microsoft multimedia one is pretty quiet. Obviously some noise, but it's probably the quietest I've used besides a laptop keyboard.

laptopstyle kbs, yes they are sold. less movement=less noise. i also have a logitech and microsoft multimedia ergo, but normal full depth key movement still makes a bit of noise

Staying up late, *with* permission, doing physics, calculus, and english (english is where the keyboard most comes in handy ... typing up essays gets loud, fast).

=p

You don't need much typing for surfing pr0n.

Edit: looking at these ... slim keyboard = less than full depth = less noise ?

my natural multimedia actually makes a lot of noise when i type.. guess it's aging?

I also heard applying a teflon based lubricant helps with the keyboard, i haven't tried this yet.
it doesn't help that i type fast either, i think the clickity clackity makes a lot of noise as i depress the keys quickly.

I prefer louder keyboards. It's probably something psychosomatic, but I think I can type faster with them. Myabe because the springs feel stiffer?
